Bornholm is very special. Because of the isolated location of the island in the Baltic Sea, it was very dependent on energy and on food. There have been more than 90 mills on Bornholm. Of these, 3 stump mills, 12 Dutch wind turbines and 3 water mills have been preserved.
On this route you will visit 3 windmills on the east coast around Svaneke. Enjoy the beautiful nature and Svaneke’s charming yellow half-timbered houses.

Christian Sommer, the great-grandfather of the current owner, built the Kuremøllen in 1861. The mill is located high on the Kurebakken, overlooking Christiansø and the entire coast of Svaneke. The Kuremøllen is a Dutch octagonal wooden mill.
WebsiteThe Svanemøllen (Swan Mill) was built in 1856 by mill builder Christian Sommer. From the construction the mill was covered with oak plates. In 1920 he was taken over by master baker Frederiksen, who in 1958 sold him to the ‘Friends of the City Association Svanekes’.
WebsiteThe mill is owned by the Friends of the City Association Svanekes. The post mill on Møllebakken on the northern outskirts of Svaneke was probably built in 1629 – at least no later than 1634 – as evidenced by an inscription in a beam.
